Surviving the Hectic School Prep Days
From the Archives
My sons are grown men now, but I still remember those days, so I am pulling this one from the archives for all the mothers of school aged children out there. Some of you may be able to relate..others, you have your ‘Claire Huxtable’ thing going on, so no you can’t relate.
This is for the mothers who have felt like a chicken without a head when trying to get your children out the door. You know what I mean, when you are finally out the door and in the car, and you feel like you’ve done a day’s work, now somebody should pay you! Is it just me??
Those days are diminishing a bit, as my boys are now teens. BUT they still cause me to act the fool sometimes…being real 🙂
Well what I am about to confess will make the rest of you feel like ‘Mummy of the Year’. Late last year my child ended up standing outside the gates of the school, fully decked in his uniform except for one school sock! Yes picture it if you can. I would have probably died laughing had not for the fact that I had just recovered from his phone call, found said sock, and drove for half an hour from home transporting said sock; when I was already late and was suppose to be on my way to my job. There were no words. How he managed to lose a sock in the chaos of that morning…still remains a mystery.
Everyone repeat after me : D.Y.S.F.U.N.C.T.I.O.N. and YES I take full responsibility! I am the mother after all….and if our house and life had been in order, The Tale of the ‘Child with ONE Sock‘, would have been fiction. I will spare you the nuances of this particular story..its sufficient to say that this particular morning like many others, nothing seemed to go right.
God has many ways of telling us when our life is out of balance. It may be a story like mine (although they can’t be too many of these 🙂 ), or it may be illness, financial instability, depression and a general feeling of helplessness and irritability. However it manifest..we know SOMETHING AIN’T RIGHT! I recently listened to a message by Dr. Jamal Bryant entitled “Get Your House in Order” …..ouchhhh!
The biblical meaning of the number 12 is “Governmental Perfection”, some Christian leaders have said this is the year of order, the year to get things right. So I encourage you to lessen or eradicate the dysfunction in your life. Yes, maybe your child wasn’t left outside the school gates fully dressed except for one sock. But you know you have your mess!!
NOTE: It won’t ever be perfect! We will always have our trials and tribulations, and if you have kids…get a grip..perfect order and peace is virtually unobtainable before we get to heaven! But where would be the fun be if EVERYTHING were perfect.
BUT you know when there is severe chaos and disorder in your life, manifesting itself in many different ways. SO pray, seek God and make a conscious effort to do something about it people!
“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.” 1 Corinthians 14.33
Love y’all.. Coach D
