An Encouragement for Those Who Have Been Waiting: “There Will Come a Day”
Maybe you have been waiting for God to move for many days, years, or even decades. I was so inspired by my own waiting journey that I wrote a book a few years ago called WAIT, because I knew that the waiting couldn’t be in vain. And even if the wait felt painful, I knew it had to be for a powerful purpose.
So the other day, I was on a prayer call, speaking and encouraging, and it came right out of my mouth that when God moves, He moves big, suddenly, and irreversibly! And we see this all across the Word of God.
So I want to encourage us today.
Maybe you’ve been waiting like Hannah to conceive, or like Joseph to get out of prison, or like the woman with the issue of blood for healing. Or maybe you’ve been waiting like David for a promised promotion, or like Ruth and Naomi to get out of poverty, or like the people of Israel to get out of a slavery situation. Remember, God came through for all of them, and He is still the same God today.
Whenever you are enduring, remember that there are rewards for endurance. Many times, the Lord will test and prepare us before He uses or promotes us. God is all-loving, all-powerful, and all-wise. He is El Roi, the God who sees us. He knows all things, and He has a plan! Once you are His and have been bought with the blood of His Son, know that He is working, most often when we cannot see what He is doing. He is working in the unseen, where things are being developed and prepared.
One of my favorite sayings is: “There will come a day.” That day when God comes. That day when God says, “It’s time!” That Kairos moment. That set time to favor. When the unseen moves into the seen. When we finally see what God has been up to all along. That day when others look on and say, “Well, how did that happen?” and soon come to realize that it could only be God!
To the outside world, it may seem like the healing, the deliverance, the promotion, the money, he marriage or the breakthrough came out of nowhere. But for us, we will remember the years of preparation, the prayers and tears, the fasting, the obedience, and the service to God and His kingdom. Years when, oftentimes, only we and Papa God knew what was happening as He prepared us for that ‘day’. And when that day comes, what looked like years of nothing happening can suddenly change.
Let’s Look at How God Moves: Suddenly, Monumentally, and Irreversibly
We see this pattern all across the Word of God, both in the lives of individuals and in the lives of entire groups of people.
Individuals
Joseph — From Prisoner to Prime Minister
We all know the popular story of Joseph. After years of waiting, suddenly, one day, Pharaoh sent for him, and he was hurriedly brought out of the dungeon. He was monumentally promoted from prisoner to Prime Minister, second in command over all the land of Egypt. And he never went back to prison! He remained in that position of authority for the rest of his life.
It was Sudden. Monumental. Irreversible.
Hannah — From Barrenness to Motherhood
We know the story of Hannah. She was barren for many, many years, mocked and ridiculed because she had no children. And then the Lord “remembered” her! She conceived and gave birth to Samuel, who became one of the great prophets of Israel. And not only did she have Samuel, but the Lord went on to bless her with three more sons and two daughters.
It was Sudden. Monumental. Irreversible.
Ruth — From Poverty to Provision
Then there is the story of Ruth. A grieving widow, impoverished, who went into the fields to glean leftover grain so that she and Naomi could survive. And then, within a relatively short period, her circumstances changed! She met Boaz, the very man who owned the field where she had been gleaning. He became her kinsman-redeemer and married her. She went from gleaning in his field to becoming his wife. And not only that, she went on to have a son, Obed, who became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ. She never returned to poverty.
It was Sudden. Monumental. Irreversible.
Groups of People
The Children of Israel — From Slavery to Freedom
We see the children of Israel in Exodus. After 430 years, to that very day, all the hosts of the Lord left the land of Egypt. Suddenly, in one night, everything changed! Pharaoh told them to get up and leave. They packed up their belongings, and the Egyptians gave them articles of silver, gold, and clothing. An entire nation leaving Egypt, carrying the wealth of the Egyptians with them! And when God brought them through the Red Sea, He told them that the Egyptians they saw that day, they would see no more.
It was Sudden. Monumental. Irreversible.
The Apostles — From Waiting to Empowerment
Jesus had instructed the apostles to wait for the promise of the Father, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. So they waited together in prayer. And then, suddenly, on the Day of Pentecost, there came a sound from heaven like a mighty rushing wind, and tongues as of fire appeared and rested upon them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit came suddenly. He came powerfully. And the apostles entered a new era of Spirit-empowered ministry. The Church would never be the same again!
It was Sudden. Monumental. Irreversible.
And so we see, whether God is moving for an individual or for an entire people, there are times when He moves suddenly, monumentally, and irreversibly!
1. When God Moves, It Is Monumental!
Look at Psalm 126.
“When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! 2 We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” 3 Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy! ‘
It was as if they were dreaming!
That is what a monumental move of God looks like.
Something so great, so marvelous, so extraordinary, that even those looking on recognize that it could only be God.
And remember what Joshua told the people: “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.”
And the psalmist tells us: “This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” When God moves monumentally, it will be marvelous in our eyes!
When God finally moves, it is huge. It is wonderful. It is marvelous. It is great. It’s a miracle!
2. When God Moves, It Is Sudden!
Now, this is what I want those of you who have been waiting for a very long time to understand. Just because you cannot see anything happening does not mean that God is not working. Look at what God says through Isaiah. God says that He declared the former things long ago, and then: “Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.”
Suddenly!
God had already spoken. God had already declared what He would do. And then, at the appointed time, He acted.
We see this in the book of Acts, when suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind. We see it again with Paul and Silas. They were in prison, praying and singing hymns to God, and suddenly there was a great earthquake! The foundations of the prison were shaken, the doors were opened, and everyone’s chains were unfastened. Think about that! One moment they were in chains, and the next moment the doors were open!
And Chronicles tells us that Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because God had prepared the people, for the thing came about suddenly. God had prepared the people, and then the thing happened suddenly!
So don’t despise the years of preparation. Don’t allow frustration or impatience to cause you to give up. What may take years to prepare can manifest suddenly.
3. When God Moves, It Is Irreversible!
And here is the third dimension. When God moves, there are things that can never go back to the way they were before. God says through Isaiah: “I act, and who can reverse it?” Who can reverse what God has done?
Isaiah asks:
“For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?”
When God acts, who can reverse it?
When the walls of Jericho fell, they were not put back up.
When Joseph was promoted, he was not demoted again.
When the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea, they did not return to Egypt as a nation in slavery.
When the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, the Church entered a new era of power and ministry.
These were monumental moves of God that changed the course of people’s lives and even the course of history.
Sudden. Monumental. Irreversible.
Don’t Despise the Waiting
We know that there is much preparation during the times of waiting. As God is moving and preparing so that all the puzzle pieces fit together, He is also, at the same time, building up our character and preparing us for His big, monumental, sudden, and irreversible acts.
So be encouraged today. Be patient. Endure. I encourage you to look up the words endurance and perseverance in the Bible and see all the many rewards that come from enduring. I had to.
Don’t allow frustration, impatience, or the length of your waiting to cause us to lose faith.
Stay obedient. Stay faithful. Keep trusting God.
Closing Encouragement — Be Prepared! God Is Going to Move!
Pray and ask God for the Issachar anointing, so we will know what time and season we are in. But generally speaking, we see that the days are short, and we are in the times of Isaiah 60, where thick darkness is covering the earth, but yet the glory of the Lord is upon His people.
Be encouraged to know that if we have been waiting, if we know we have been being prepared on the backside of the desert, there is coming that day! It could be today. It could be tomorrow, when the Lord is going to move in our lives suddenly, monumentally, and irreversibly!
As it says in Habakkuk, the vision is for an appointed time. Though it seems to tarry, wait for it, because it will surely come in due season. So we won’t give up on the vision God has given us. We won’t abandon what He has placed in our hearts simply because it has taken longer than you expected.
There is an appointed time!
And when that appointed time comes, God can move suddenly, monumentally, and irreversibly!
But here’s my advice:
Be prepared!
Be prepared mentally, spiritually, and physically for what you have been praying and believing God for, for so many days, years, or even decades. Sometimes we have to be prepared to move mentally from one position to another before we can move physically.
Sometimes we have to leave things behind to move into the new. We cannot hold on to the old and embrace the new at the same time. Some doors have to close for other doors to open. And when God closes a door, we must be willing to let it close. When He opens a new one, we must have the faith and courage to walk through it.
So be prepared for the transition!
Be prepared for that healing.
Be prepared for that relocation… Pack your bags!
Be prepared for marriage.
Be prepared to start that powerful ministry.
Be prepared to build that million-dollar company.
Whatever it is that God has placed in your heart, prophesied or promised you, be prepared!
There will come a day when God, our God, steps in, and all that He’s been working on in the unseen becomes seen. What looked like nothing was happening will suddenly become visible. What seemed impossible will become possible with God. And when God moves, who can reverse it?
Be ready! Be prepared! Because God moves SUDDENLY, MONUMENTALLY, AND IRREVERSIBLY!
I speak over you today: “There is coming that day! 😊”
